the-expendables-2010_posterBrian Tyler, one of the busiest composers in Hollywood, has confirmed a number of upcoming projects to MovieScore Magazine. He is doing the music for Sylvester Stallone’s new action film, The Expendables, starring Stallone himself and other action stars such as Jason Stathma, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Eric Roberts. The film, about a team of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a dictator in South America, is produced by John Thompson, who first worked with Tyler on Stallone’s Rambo remake last year. Millennium Films is doing the film for distribution by Lionsgate next summer.

Furthermore, Brian Tyler is doing the music for Columbus Circle, a thriller directed by George Gallo, starring Selma Blair, Amy Smart, Jason Lee, Giovanni Ribisi and Beau Bridges, and he is attached to score Battle: Los Angeles, an alien invasion flick currently in pre-prodution. Jonathan Liebesman, who worked with Brian Tyler on the recent thriller The Killing Room, is directing for a Columbia Pictures release on February 18, 2011.

Brian Tyler, who is represented by Gorfaine-Schwartz, recenly scored F. Gary Gray’s Law Abiding Citizen and followed in the footsteps of the late Shirley Walker, doing the music for Warner Bros. The Final Destination.

Brian Tyler is talented and a musical beast when it comes to orchestration and action, no doubt, usually keeping me entertained, but I have yet to be really really impressed by this composer since his early work for Children of Dune, Timeline, and Darkness Falls (besides the cue “Assassin” from Bangkok Dangerous, recently.
Here’s hoping he pulls out some original and kick a** sounds and rhythms for this new assignment, and maybe quits trying to take on some much at once! ;-)
    love ya Brian Tyler!

That’s great. Brian’s scores are very cool. I discover him with the movie Frailty, that movie has a excellent music and a wonderful main theme. The Final Destination score is excellent, and has some homage to Shirley Walker’s excellent scores. I’m sure he’s going to make and amazing score for this next movie classic.

I just had a look at Tylar’s imdb page to jog my memory and to tell the truth his back catalogue wasn’t exactly rocking my world. Untill i came across Bubba Ho-tep. This was, in my humble opinion, a truly fantastic score and i hope that he brings that level of fun and style to what i hope Stallone is planning as a celebration of 80’s excess.

I have to say although his score for Rambo was good most of his other work is so-so. I was hoping Alan Silvestri would score this as his action scores of the 80s were fantastic and would be a welcome return.
