Nick Glennie-Smith to score ‘Secretariat’

ngsWalt Disney Pictures has confirmed to MovieScore Magazine that Nick Glennie-Smith has been tapped to compose the original music for the studio’s upcoming racehorse drama Secretariat, directed by Randall Wallace and starring Diane Lane, John Malkovich and Scott Glenn. It is Glennie-Smith’s first Hollywood film as the main composer on a movie since Peter Hyams’ A Sound of Thunder in 2005. Since then, Glennie-Smith has scored a couple of European film but worked mainly as a conductor for various composers such as Hans Zimmer, Steve Jablonsky and Atli Örvarsson. The 57-year old UK-born composer is best known for his collaboration with Zimmer on the popular score for The Rock.

Randall Wallace and Nick Glennie-Smith previously worked together on We Were Soldiers, the Vietnam war movie starring Mel Gibson.

Secretariat tells the story of Penny Chenery, who was the owner of the racehorse Secretariat, the winner of the 1973 Triple Crown. The film is slated to premiere in October next year.
