Örvarsson to score ‘Karate Kid’ remake

atliIcelandic composer Atli Örvarsson, who just made the news here with the assignment to score the medieval epic Season of the Witch, has just been hired to score Columbia’s remake of the 1980s hit Karate Kid, entitled Kung Fu Kid. Genre icon Jackie Chan stars as the mentor (portrayed by Pat Morita in the original franchise) who take on the role to guide a young kid into the world of karate. Norwegian director Harald Zwart (Agent Cody Banks) helms the project, which in the words of The Hollywood Reporter is yet another example of the 1980s having “turned into a full-fledged garage sale of titles”. The remake is partly being shot on location in China, and film is scheduled to be released next summer.
