DJ_IT_1Sht_18Deborah Lurie, the composer who recently scored the Tim Burton-produced animated fantasy movie 9 based on themes penned by Danny Elfman, is doing the original score for Dear John. This is the new film from Swedish director Lasse Hallström, who previously worked with Lurie on An Unfinished Life, a film where Lurie replaced a rejected score by Christopher Young. Dear John, starring Channing Tatum, Amanda Seyfried, Richard Jenkins and Henry Thomas, is based on the Nicholas Sparks novel about a soldier who falls in love with a woman while on military leave. Film is scheduled to premiere on February 5 next year. Deborah Lurie, who is represented by Kraft-Engel Management, has been writing film music for about a decade, starting out as an assistant to composer Andrew Gross, working as an orchestrator for Mark Snow and John Ottman before breaking out as a solo composer on films such as Imaginary Heroes, My Name is Modesty and Sleepover.
