Christopher Young to score ‘The Rum Diary’

chrisyoungComposer Christopher Young reunites with director Bruce Robinson to score his upcoming Hunter S. Thompson film, The Rum Diary, starring Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Young wrote one of his most influential scores for Robinson’s 1992 thriller Jennifer 8. Strangely enough, The Rum Diary is Robinson’s first feature film directing gig since Jennifer 8 – after that film he has only written a couple of screenplays and worked a little bit in television. Produced by Dark & Stormy Entertainment and GK Films, The Rum Diary is based on the novel by Hunter S. Thompson about an alcoholic and divorced journalist and the time he spends kicking around in Puerto Rico. Supporting cast includes Aaron Eckhart, Giovanni Ribisi and Richard Jenkins.

52-year old Christopher Young has had a prolific and diverse musical output lately: he wrote a typically powerful and exciting horror score for Sam Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell but also scored romantic drama Love Happens, the Charles Darwin biopic Creation and Disney’s romantic comedy When in Rome (due out in January next year). He is also doing the music for Unthinkable, the new thriller from director Gregor Jordan, for whom he previously scored The Informers.
