Kritzerland releases early Woody Allen scores

bananasTiming is good when Kritzerland announces their latest CD: it features Marvin Hamlisch’s score for Bananas, the early Woody Allen film. Hamlisch is probably the most talked-about film composer at the moment with his acclaimed score for Steven Soderbergh’s film, The Informant – a job he landed thanks to the director’s affinity for the Bananas score! Kritzerland’s CD is limited to 1,000 copies only and also features the score from Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask, penned by jazz musician Mundell Lowe. Both scores are catchy early 1970s rarities, and also unusual in the Woody Allen filmography – not until 2007 did he have a full-length original score written for one of his films, namely Cassandra’s Dream which, quite surprisingly, was scored by Philip Glass. Kritzerland mastered Bananas and Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask from original materials: Bananas from the four-track session tapes, and Sex from the original master tapes that were prepared for an LP release that never happened. The CD will be available third week of November.
