New award to honor best Nordic composer

31 October 2009 531 views One Comment

The Nordic societies for composers and songwriters are joining forces to establish a new annual film music award, to be handed out for the first time during the Göteborg Film Festival in February next year. The Nordic Film Music Award will be handed out to a film composer from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden for a score written for a film that premiered during the past year. Each country will nominate a composer of its own, and the five finalists will be in competition during the festival where the winner will be announced.

In Sweden, where the new award is being financed by SKAP (The Swedish Society of Popular Music Composers) and FST (Society of Swedish Composers), there is no award for best film music included in the annual film awards (the Guldbagge Awards).

The winnter of the Nordic Film Music Award will receive SEK100,000 (approximately $14,000).

Finally, I`ve said to some people I know that I would boycott the Guldbagge Awards for years just because of their ignorance of the importance of film music but now I am happy again.
