marrJohnny Marr, who was a founding member, guitarist and songwriting partner with Morrissey in the legendary 1980s rock band The Smiths, has been hired to composer the original score for The Big Bang, a detective story starring Antonio Banderas, Delroy Lindo and Sam Elliott. “This will be Johnny’s first film score and he was just ranked the number one greatest guitarist of all time by Virgin Media,” producer Reece Pearson commented to MovieScore Magazine, comparing the assignment to that of Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead doing the score for There Will Be Blood and Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam doing Into the Wild. Johnny Marr, born in 1963, is currently a member of Modest Mouse and The Cribs.

The director of The Big Bang is Tony Krantz, who was a producer on David Lynch’s Mulholland Dr. and helmed last year’s Otis. The music supervisor on the picture is Rudy Chung (Goal! The Dream Begins, Flicka). The film stars Banderas as a private detective who is searching for a former stripper who no one has ever seen.
